Counselling Services Unit has founded its ideals within the global anti-torture movement on the right to rehabilitation and a health based client centered approach that contributes to eliminating fear and building courage. Counselling Services Unit has developed its work at the nexus of health, human rights and the law, and believes that the right to rehabilitation is a critical component of peace and stability.
What are Human Rights?
Human rights are inherent to all humans, not granted by governments, regardless of background or status.
Examples of Human Rights
Freedom from torture or cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment
No person may be tortured physically or psychologically or may be treated or punished in a way that is cruel, inhuman and degrading.
Freedom of assembly and association
Every person has the right to gather with others and join an association of their choice and the right not to belong to or be forced to belong to an association , or punished in a way that is cruel, inhuman and degrading.
Right of an arrested/ detained person
He or she must be told the reasons for arrest at the time when he or she is arrested.

Our Purpose

Primary
Victims suffering physically, psychologically and socially due to assault, physical and psychological torture, forced evictions and various forms of losses originating from organized violence and torture.
02.
Secondary
Victims witnessing torture of others/ spouses, family members or colleagues, Families of missing / murdered persons, communities experiencing high levels of violence, displacements and violent farm invasions.
03.
Tertiary
Health workers and other personnel who care for torture survivors. CSU targets key groups or individuals who already work in roles where they are likely to be approached by victims of organized violence and torture.

Counselling
Clients at CSU undergo psychological assessments and counseling to evaluate the impact of assault. Follow-up sessions continue until clients can independently manage their lives, with additional support or referrals as needed, especially if suicide risk is present.

Medical
CSU’s medical team provides comprehensive care for victims of organized violence. They ensure holistic rehabilitation through assessments, therapy, referrals, psychological support, and forensic services, empowering survivors to regain control and reintegrate into society.

Call Centre
Supports victims by providing information on services, conducting initial screenings, scheduling appointments, and offering emotional support. It facilitates referrals and crisis intervention, ensuring survivors receive timely assistance in their journey toward rehabilitation.
