CSU
Background Information
CSU was registered under the Health Professions Act in 2003 as a Medical Rehabilitation Centre for victims of Organized Violence and Torture(OVT) in Zimbabwe. Over the past years the organization has provided comprehensive medical and psychological rehabilitation and protection to victims of torture as mandated and defined by the United Nations Convention against torture. More than 28000 individuals have received medical treatment and psychological rehabilitation and access to redress and reparation, with many having experience d multiple incidents of torture and violence since 2000. CSU offers comprehensive multidisciplinary services tailored to meet your physical, mental, and legal rehabilitation needs.
Mission
The CSU mission statement is “Eliminating Fear and Building Courage” with a vision to build a democratic and torture free Zimbabwe. The statement and vision are built on the right to comprehensive rehabilitation and prevention for torture victims, working with clients, communities and the institutions of the state.
What are Human Rights?
Human Rights are rights we have simply because we exist as human beings. They are not granted by any state . Everyone is born with these rights regardless of nationality, sex , national or ethnic origin, color, religion, language, or any other status.

Counselling
Offering psycho-social therapy to primary and secondary victims of organized violence and torture, through counselling processes, linking individuals to needed resources using referral pathways and developing and implementing peer support groups. Counsellors facilitates training of relevant partner organizations, health care workers and community leaders that are likely o meet victims of organized violence and torture in he identification and management of trauma
Legal
Our legal department assists victims of violence torture and other human rights violations to be able to seek redress and access to justice. This involves giving egal advice and referring clients to organizations that can assist with legal matters outside the work of CSU. The legal department together with the clinic also facilitates the creation of medical affidavits that can be produced as evidence in court when claiming for compensation.
